ABC Ontario defines Intellectual Giftedness as:

Asynchronous development characterized by measurable, advanced intellectual abilities accompanied by any or a combination of the following:

  • heightened intensity
  • exceptional creativity
  • persistent intellectual curiosity
  • rapid acquisition and mastery of concepts
  • superior reasoning and problem solving skills
  • leadership capacity
  • potential for advanced achievement in a specific domain or general academic aptitude

and which requires interventions beyond those available in a regular school program including:

  • optimal pacing of learning
  • interaction with like-ability peers 
  • individualized learning experiences
  • increased breadth and depth 
  • specialized supports
  • continual opportunity for challenge and advancement
     
    in order to address individualized learning needs and social-emotional vulnerabilities as indicated and to maximize well-being, educational engagement and development of such capabilities to enable the child to reach their full potential.
     
    Giftedness can occur across all demographics and in combination with physical impairments and communication or behaviour disorders.

2021 ABC Ontario AGM and Keynote Speaker


We’re pleased to invite you to ABC’s virtual Annual General Meeting and to hear an outstanding Keynote Speaker, who is very knowledgeable and experienced in supporting the intellectual, social, and emotional development of bright and gifted children and adolescents. 
 
Dr. Louise Porter is a child psychologist based in Australia, who specializes in supporting children’s emotional, social and developmental needs. With a Masters degree in Gifted Education and a Doctorate in children's behaviour, she brings 40 years of experience to the topic of supporting bright and gifted learners. She also has a wide range of publications, including a book and a DVD on giftedness.

ABC Ontario's Annual General Meeting will be held in conjunction with our Provincial Conference on Saturday December 2, 2017 at 11am.**

Emmanuel College, University of Toronto 75 Queen’s Park Crescent East

All Members are invited to attend to receive our financial statements for the last fiscal year and participate in the election of our new executive for the 2018-2020 term. The formal meeting will take less than an hour. Please RSVP to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you will be joining us for a light complimentary lunch between attending the AGM and the afternoon conference. Lunch is only provided to AGM participants.

Advance registration is required for the 12:30-4:30pm Conference. Please see the home page for additional details about our 2017 Provincial Conference.

Note: The AGM is open to all members free of charge. If you also wish to participate in the afternoon conference and hear our exciting lineup of speaker presentations you must register here and pay in advance: $35 per person [$45 after Nov 26, 2017]

**In the event that we fail to meet quorum requirements as specified in our by-laws, we will make a second attempt to hold our formal AGM at the same location on the same day at 1pm.
