TVDSB Congregated Gifted Class Update - 2010It was brought to our attention again in 2010, as in 2009, that some grade four students who were identified as gifted in the Thames Valley DSB were disappointed to not be offered spots in one of the congregated gifted classes despite meeting the criteria and demonstrating need for this placement. We are concerned that this may become a continuing trend. If your family has been impacted by the limited number of class spots please contact us at abclondonchapter@hotmail.com It is critical that all identified exceptional students receive special education programming services that match their needs and that programmes to deliver such services be administered in ways that are equitable, fair and needs based and that also take into account parental preference. The Thames Valley DSB follows a spectrum of service model that offers a range of placements for all special needs students based on demonstrated need and personal preference. For gifted students, options include the Itinerant Gifted Program, classroom differentiation, various types of acceleration and congregated class placement. However it is essential that the system has sufficient spots available in any given placement for all students who meet the criteria and want access to that option.
